#026 l'International de montgolfières & Quebec City

Montreal, August 12 - 16, 2017

This is the third time I've been to Montreal and first time to Quebec, so I am gonna introduce some events/locations that is not touristy and worth visiting. This is also my first time traveling with my graduate school mate Darcy. Haven't seen her for more than one year and it's been hell fun with her.

There are two events in/near Montreal that we feel it's worth our money lol.

International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

August 12 - 19, 2017

It's outside Montreal and happening every year around mid August. I feel like it's more like a local event and family oriented. The reason why we wanna check out is first of all, I've never ride a hot ballon before, second, there's performance every day for 9 days in a row and the ticket price is very decent compared to others. The only drawback is that it's hard to get there if you don't have a car. Transportation is expensive and unfortunately not included in your ticket. We had to take bus 96 from Montreal to Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and take another shuttle to the event. The total cost for a round trip is around 25 CAD. If you are going there for more than one day, it will cost you a fortune.

Despite the transportation, the hot balloons look pretty cool one by one taking off to the sky. You can actually get really close to and see how they gear up. We got a pretty great spot both day and night for viewing. If you wanna ride a balloon, it's another 200 CAD. It's still fun enjoy some live music and watching the balloons. By the way, there are also some amusement facilities here at the other side such as free fall and rollercoaster that you can enjoy! Overall great experience!

All year round 2017

Montreal is celebrating 375 years of establishment in 2017. It's been all over the city since last summer. The really cool thing is they use mapping/projection on the building to show some historical events about Montreal. You can download to the app, pick a route and go have fun! Since it's light projection, it starts around 30 minutes after sunset.

My favorite spot is a small alley in old port where the projection will interact the way you walk or move. Another one is the on the trees around the pond in old port as well. Faces of citizens in Montreal have been projected onto trees. It's a bit creepy but amazing!

We've also recommended some restaurants and sites to go. We've gone to two historical sites with my national park pass for free, and I don't think a lot of people knew about it.

Sir George-Étienne Cartier National Historic Site

Admission free for Canada 150

We highly recommend you take a tour with the guide with no extra charge. They are very knowledgable and you can actually go beyond the fence and go into the dining room or try on the skirt frame of 19th century.

Lachine Canal & The Fur Trade National Historic Site

Admission free for Canada 150

Very relaxing view of the nature and learning the history of fur trade is very interesting including how Hudson's Bay is becoming of today.

Crew Cafe

Hidden inside the old bank lobby on Saint-Jacques, the interior itself is a must see!

If you are a fan of Brunch, you need to visit here. Plenty of waffles, croissants, pancakes, poutines to choose from. And did I say the portion is HUGE?

NosThés Bistros Montréal

If you are craving Taiwanese food such as chicken chops and  braised pork on rice  (proud Taiwanese here!), please come visit here. They have all things Taiwanese :)

It's all about K-Drama "Dokaebbi"

尋找燦爛的神 - 鬼怪之旅

Quebec City, August 17 - 18, 2017

One of the most exciting experience of the trip lol. We've decided to go to Quebec a long time ago before I even watched the drama. Darcy recommended to finish this drama before our trip, and I can say this drama definitely brought more Asians to Quebec.

Old Quebec is quite small and it was built around the hills, so you can expect to climb some ups and downs. The main attraction is Fairmont and a lot of scenes were shot in the surrounding area. I had our spots in STARS on the map if you are interested!

很多人問我鬼怪的拍攝景點, 所以我把我們找到的地方在地圖上標星星, 這樣應該很好找了
